Carpentry is the backbone trade of handyman work, and it's where corners get cut most often — gaps hidden with caulk, soft framing skinned over, trim that almost lines up. We do it the older way: measure, cut tight, fasten right, and fix the structure before dressing the surface.
That covers the pretty work (crown, casing, wainscoting, built-ins) and the honest work nobody sees — sistering a cracked joist, re-framing a sagging garage door opening, cutting out rot at a window sill and rebuilding it so water sheds the way it should. Old-Growth Homes Deserve Careful Hands
Duluth and Superior's older neighborhoods are full of fir and oak trim you simply can't buy at a box store anymore. When we repair it, we salvage and re-use the original wherever possible, and mill or profile-match replacements when we can't — so a repaired doorway in your Congdon or East End home still looks like it belongs there.
Carpentry Questions
Is a sagging floor or cracked stud something a handyman can fix?
Often, yes — sistering joists, adding blocking, and re-framing openings are standard work for us. If we open things up and find a genuine structural problem beyond handyman scope, we'll tell you straight and help you get the right engineer or contractor involved.
Can you match the trim in my 1920s house?
Usually. Between salvage, stock profiles, and stackable molding combinations we can get remarkably close — and for painted trim, a near-match reads as identical once finished.
Do you build custom furniture?
We build installed pieces — built-ins, benches, shelving, closet systems — rather than freestanding furniture. If it attaches to the house, we're your crew.
