Paint Is 80% Prep

Anyone can roll color on a wall. What you're paying for is everything before the roller: furniture protected, holes filled, cracks caulked, glossy surfaces scuffed, edges cut clean, and the right primer under the right paint. That prep is why our painted rooms still look sharp when your neighbor's DIY job is peeling at the trim.

Outside, prep matters even more — Northland siding takes a beating from lake-effect moisture, UV bounce off snow, and 130-degree annual temperature swings. We scrape, sand, spot-prime, and caulk before a drop of finish goes on, and we're honest about the weather windows exterior work needs up here.

Painting Around Lake Superior's Moods

Exterior paint up here needs surface temps above roughly 50 degrees and a dry stretch — which gives the Twin Ports a real painting season of about four months. We book exterior work May through September and keep a weather eye on the gales; interior painting, wallpaper, and cabinet work fill the calendar all winter, when we can hold your date regardless of what the lake is doing.

Painting Questions

Do you supply the paint or do I?

Either. Most customers pick the color and we supply a quality mid-or-better line billed with the receipt; if you already bought paint, we'll happily use it. We'll tell you straight if a bargain paint will cost you an extra coat.

Can you hang the bold wallpaper I bought online?

Yes — including large-repeat patterns and murals. Pattern matching, plumb lines, and seam rolling are exactly the fussy work people call us for after one frustrating DIY wall.

How soon should I book exterior painting?

By early spring. The dry-and-warm window in Duluth–Superior fills fast, and staining or exterior painting booked in August can slip to next season if the weather turns.
